Heavy’ rainfall to continue in Mumbai, Orange alert in 10 Maharashtra districts today: IMD

 Mumbai rainfall alert: CM Eknath Shinde announced holidays in schools in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar for Thursday in view of the weather alert.


As heavy rain lashed Mumbai and adjoining Thane and Palghar districts on Wednesday, triggering waterlogging and traffic woes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of further downpour over the week in several districts.

The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Mumbai centre on Tuesday issued an 'orange' alert for Mumbai and Thane districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places on Wednesday.

It issued a 'red' alert for neighbouring Raigad and Palghar districts, forecasting heavy to very rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rain at isolated places.


Maharashtra rain news: Tree branch, timely help save life of man who fell into swollen river in Kalyan


A 20-year-old man clung to a tree branch for about an hour in swirling waters of Waldhuni river in Kalyan city in Thane district of Maharashtra before he was rescued on Wednesday, an official said.

The man fell into the river while walking on a flooded road amid heavy rains at around 3 pm, a Fire Brigade official said.

On receiving the information, a team of Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the man, he added. (PTI)

Kalyan-Kasara section restored to normal; all point failures corrected


The Central Railway informed that Kalyan-Kasara section has been restored to normal at 5:25pm. 

“All points failures of Kalyan station are put right. Ambarnath-Badlapur DOWN section restored to Normal at 17.50 hrs. Badlapur-Ambarnath UP section restoration remained”, it added.
